Via Lumina Reader

Via Lumina Reader privacy policy

Effective date: October 26, 2026

Via Lumina Reader is made by Deep Well Labs, Inc. This policy explains what the app keeps on your device, what happens when you share or back up that data, and how to contact us.

Reading stays on your device

You do not need an app account to read or search. The Bible text and reference material are bundled with the app, and reading and search work offline.

The app does not send your reading position, searches, saved passages or highlights to Deep Well Labs or Origo. It has no app-operated server, advertising, analytics, telemetry or third-party crash-reporting service. The app has no remote AI service or meaning search. Reader-only builds have no purchases. Supporter-enabled builds offer the optional subscriptions described below. The app does not synchronize your library between devices.

Optional supporter subscriptions

In supporter-enabled versions, Apple handles optional monthly or annual auto-renewing subscriptions through StoreKit and your Apple Account. Every translation and functional feature remains free. Both plans provide Supporter recognition and one additional reading palette. The purchase screen shows the localized full price, billing period and renewal terms; there is no free trial.

The app checks Apple's verified entitlement on device and holds supporter status only in memory. It does not add an account, store a purchase record in its database or send receipts to an app-operated server. Apple processes purchases under its own terms and privacy policy. Apple also makes sales and financial reports available to us; these are separate from your reading, searches and saved passages, which the app does not send us. We do not link sales reports to an app-local reading library.

Restore Purchases explicitly asks Apple to synchronize purchases. Manage Subscription opens Apple's management interface. Turning off renewal keeps benefits until paid access ends. Expiry or revocation removes the cosmetic entitlement; an active supporter palette returns to Calm without deleting your saved data.

What the app keeps

The app stores the information needed to restore your reading experience and the things you save:

Search text being edited and other temporary interface state are also held while you use the app. The app does not keep personal notes or a complete history of every passage you read.

Optional reminders

Daily reminders are off by default. Enabling one asks iOS for notification permission when needed. The reminder is scheduled locally; it does not use a push-notification server. The notification says “Today's Passage” and “Take a moment with today's reading.” It contains no search query, saved passage or reading history.

You can turn reminders off in the app's Settings under “Today's Passage.” iOS controls notification permission, delivery and Lock Screen visibility. Someone who can see your notifications may see that you use the app. Focus and Scheduled Summary can affect delivery. The app reads notification authorization from iOS rather than saving a separate authorization record in its database.

Protection and device backups

The app stores its saved data in its own device storage, using iOS Complete file protection. It does not add its own app passcode or separate application-layer encryption. Someone who can use your unlocked device can open the app and see its saved data.

The database is eligible for inclusion in your device backup, including recent searches and reminder preferences. Whether a backup is made, retained or restored depends on your Apple settings and backup method. Backups are managed by you and Apple or your chosen computer, not by a service we operate. Device backup is different from app-to-app synchronization.

Apple may separately process App Store, device or diagnostic information under its policies and your settings. Our app does not add a reporting service of its own.

Export, import and links you choose to open

“Export saved data…” in Settings creates a readable JSON file containing translation preferences, saved searches, saved passages and highlights with their source snapshots, the reading position, and app/pack version information. It is not a copy of every app setting: recent searches, reminder preferences, reading font and size, theme and parallel-view settings are not included.

An export is not password-encrypted. Anyone with the file can read its contents. The iOS share sheet lets you choose a destination, which may be another app, a cloud-storage service or another person. That destination's privacy practices apply to the copy you share. The app does not automatically send an export to us. Its temporary staging file is removed when sharing finishes or is cancelled; a file left by an interrupted share is cleaned up on a later launch. Copies already shared remain at their destinations.

“Import saved data…” reads a compatible file you select on your device and asks you to confirm before applying it. The original file remains separate from the app's library.

Credits contain external source links. If you choose to open one, your browser and the destination website handle that visit under their own privacy practices.

Your choices and deletion

Previously created backups, exported files and copies sent elsewhere are not erased when you delete data from the app. Manage those copies at their destinations. Deletion is not a promise of forensic erasure. We cannot remotely view, restore or erase your app-local library because we do not hold a server copy.

Visiting our privacy and support pages

These web pages are hosted on Vercel. Hosting and network providers process ordinary web-request information, such as your IP address, requested page, request time and browser information, to deliver the pages and maintain their security. Vercel describes its processing in its Privacy Notice. This website traffic is separate from reading and searching inside the offline app.

These two pages contain no contact form, advertising code or added analytics. Their email links open your email app. We do not promise that website hosting produces no operational logs or that such logs have a particular retention period.

If you contact us

Email begin@helloorigo.com for support or privacy questions. We receive your email address, message and any attachments you choose to send. We use that correspondence to respond to your request and address the issue; our email provider processes it to deliver and store the conversation. Please do not send passwords, an Apple Account identifier, a full saved-data export or personal reading material unless it is necessary and you choose to share it.

We retain support correspondence only as long as needed to handle the request and related follow-up, then delete it when it is no longer needed, except where retention is required by law. You can ask us to delete information you sent us. This applies to correspondence we hold, not to files or backups managed by you or another service.

Children and policy changes

The same local reading and storage behaviour applies to readers of all ages; the app does not ask for a name, age or an app account. Please avoid including personal information about children in support requests.

If our practices change, we will update this policy and its effective date. Questions about this policy can be sent to begin@helloorigo.com.
